​Healing the World through Music, Theater, Artists & Community
​Idris Ackamoor & Cultural Odyssey (IACO) is a 501c3 public benefit corporation with a mission to produce pioneering, critically acclaimed artistic programs. Core programs and services include:
​1). Internationally acclaimed multi-disciplinary performances: IACO serves the San Francisco Bay Area, the nation and the world through performances, residencies, local, national and international tours.
IACO has received international recognition for arts productions, most notably for Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids world music; "The Medea Project: Theater for Incarcerated Women/HIV Circle”; “Perfect Courage" featuring Bill T. Jones, Rhodessa Jones, and Idris Ackamoor; "Emergency Report: Theater for Inner City Youth;” “Big Butt Girls, Hard Headed Women” (Rhodessa Jones); and, over four decades years of notable events.
2). The African American Theater Alliance for Independence (AATAIN) is a Technical Assistance, Fiscal Sponsorship, and funding program that supports numerous theater organizations to survive in the modern economy. Members partner to create art programs deeply rooted in the Black experience and collectively activate spaces, develop jobs, and economically stimulate neighborhoods. Over the past decades, AATAIN has distributed over $3 million in theater arts funding.
3). "Don’t Drop Dead on Stage: Sustainability, Prosperity, and Success in the Performing Arts for Artists and Arts Administrators" is a curriculum series that educates and advocates for artist survival and well-being in the industry. Participants learn survival mechanisms and social impact tools to effectively execute "Arts as Social Activism." Subjects supplement formal college arts education by covering unique topics, such as music publishing, contracts, grant writing, e - commerce, booking and touring abroad.
